Beck Stephens began her study of bodywork in
1982. She studied Zen Shiatsu privately and attended the Swedish
Institute in New York City. Within a year she was a licensed massage
therapist in the state of New York. This gave her a valuable foundation
for understanding the physical body. Her studies in Zen Shiatsu however,
taught her to see the physical body as a highly organized energy
system. She instinctively knew this path would take her beyond the
study of bodywork, into the more mysterious study of human life.
She honed her skills for six years as a Zen Shiatsu
practitioner, when in 1988 two compelling master teachers stood
before her. Pauline Sasaki was emerging with Quantum Shiatsu, a
study that refined Zen Shiatsu. She applied principles of Quantum
Physics to perceive and work with a wider range of energy vibration
manifesting in the body and its field. Nelita Po'Okui Anderson
Cook, ordained Hawaiian Medical Kahuna, was
emerging with Mana O'Hana; a healing art based on traditional Hawaiian
Medicine.
Beck immersed herself for over ten years with
each teacher until her practice became solidly based in these two
systems of energy medicine. She received permission to teach both
Quantum Shiatsu and Mana O'Hana.
Beck has
also been an instructor of Zen Shiatsu at the Boulder College of
Massage Therapy since 1988. This is one of the premiere schools
in the United States. She has developed curricula, established a student
Shiatsu clinic that is still in operation, trained teachers and
has been department head for many years before passing the baton over
to capable colleagues.
In October of 2003, Beck found yet another
master teacher with whom she still studies. Dr.Gregory Antyuhin
is a medical intuitive from Russia, who for over twenty years has
practiced medicine as a Psychiatric Doctor and as a Shamanic healer.
Beck has been a Certified Instructor and a Certified
Practitioner with the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies
of Asia (AOBTA) since 1988.
In 1997 she co-founded Digit Press Publishing
and produced two anatomical charts of the Living
Anatomy Series to help instructors and practitioners
teach about the human body.
Beck's passion and life work, is to
help people find their way to a positive outlook, to a sense
of wellbeing and passion for life to be lived with love, gratitude, consciousness
and kindness.

Shiatsu is the ancient healing art from Japan
that is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Like Acupuncture,
Shiatsu focuses on improving a person’s
health, vitality and well being by working with the life force within
us.
Unlike Acupuncture, which employs the use of needles, Shiatsu is based
on human touch. Using palms, fingers and thumbs comfortable pressure
is applied to the body along the pathways through which energy travels.
The goal is to improve the quality of this life force, to remove blockages
in its flow and to restore its ability to circulate throughout the body.
The efficient movement of this energy is what governs the multitude of
functions we perform daily.
Mana O’Hana is the healing art from Hawaii
that is based in traditional Hawaiian Medicine.
In Mana O’Hana the focus is to remember
ourselves as spiritual beings and to cultivate our connection to all
the natural forces we are part of. Light touch and holding are involved
as well as working off the body in the energy field.
Built into both healing systems is the recognition
that we are magnificent and complex as humans. To treat us is to
acknowledge us as physical, emotional, mental and spiritual beings. Our
sense of health and wellbeing depends on our ability to internally balance
all that we are.

- There are several ways Shiatsu can help people change how they feel
physically or how they feel about themselves, their life or the
world.
- One way is to help people experience
relief. For those
suffering from long standing chronic conditions, relief
can be a profound experience. One that restores the belief
that improvement can occur and that it can possibly even
become permanent.
- Another way is to help people gain some insight
into why they
feel the way they do. With this new information people can
become involved in making changes in their behavior or in
their lifestyle.
- Yet another way is to help people change their
perspective about
an experience or a situation. This can make a solution seem
more attainable and less overwhelming.
This work is compatible and significantly adds to the effectiveness of
other treatment modalities.
- Sessions before chiropractic care will make the manipulations
easier and more fluid.
- Sessions following chiropractic care will help set the adjustments
longer in the body.
- Similarly with osteopathic care, physical
therapy, Rolfing, and Acupuncture, this work will help the body
hold a correction longer.
- Psychotherapy becomes a smoother process as Shiatsu helps a
person become more comfortable with change.
- When taking herbs, homeopathic remedies,
vitamin and mineral supplements or allopathic medicines, Shiatsu
helps in the absorption and assimilation of these substances.
- Appointments with Beck can be made by calling
303-651-7997.
- At your first visit you will be asked to fill out
a brief health history form so that Beck can recommend treatment strategies
and lifestyle habits to maximize success in reaching your goals.
- Beck will spend one hour and twenty minutes with you. The session
lasts fifty to fifty five minutes with discussion time before and after
the session.
- Cancellations must be made at least twenty-four hours in advance.
Missed appointments or late cancellations need to be paid for in full.
Exceptions are made for inclement weather, illness and emergencies.
- Wear loose and comfortable clothing. You can come dressed for the
session or change in the treatment room.
- The session takes place on a table and Beck works through the clothing.
- Most people experience a positive effect after
one session. The goal is to achieve change that is long lasting. Initially
it is most helpful to schedule sessions with regularity. This will allow
the beneficial effects to become cumulative. Once you experience how
the sessions help you both physically and in your life, you will know
how often to schedule your visits.
- It is entirely individual how long a recovery, a
change or relief might take. These depend on the complexity and
severity of the situation and on how aggressively an individual
chooses to tackle the problem. Change can occur in one session,
ten sessions, six months to a few years. One thing is for certain,
when we feel more comfortable we become more positive. This makes
us feel more capable and we become more creative. We then feel more in
sync with ourselves and what our mission in life might be, and because
we are feeling more comfortable we have the energy to carry it out. Life
is good.
These anatomical charts are designed with a revolutionary
approach. Created by massage therapists, these two charts bring the
study of anatomy to life. While supplying accurate information about
the muscular system, the skeletal and ligamental systems, the artwork
captivates the viewer. Everyone who sees these charts finds them
intriguing, helpful, educational, and personal. Health care professionals,
as well as teachers, artists, dancers, athletes, all incorporate
the references in practices, studios, and classrooms. The charts
are used as learning tools to inform and expand the understanding
of the body as an active organism. The beauty of the charts makes
them an excellent addition to the decor of treatment rooms, clinics,
studios, classrooms, and offices. For more info, please Click
